I always adored elephants and during my years living in Asia we would search for the pigmy elephants that live around the Kinabatangan river. Sealing on the river in little boats hoping to see them when they come to the river to drink. Leaf veins are used to give the painting texture and is painted with Amsterdam & Amsterdam Expert acrylics and varnish from Royal Talens on 50 x 60 cm stretched canvas. Note: this paining is not framed! But possible to hang without frame as the sides are painted too.
Another Sabah memory: a warrior performing a dance using the bamboo sticks. It's a great memory from our days in Borneo (Sabah, Malaysia). Made it to take back home to the Netherlands where it is hanging in my house but now it is time to let it go and make place for other / new art work. This painting on 90 x 60 cm stretched canvas. Painted with Amsterdam & Amsterdam Expert acrylics and varnish from Royal Talens. Note: the painting is not framed but possible to hang without frame as the sides are painted too.
Flower series #4 – Bird of Paradise A flower that I have painted several times as I think it is the most attractive flower in Asia. Painted on stretched canvas 50 cm x 60 cm with Amsterdam and Expert acrylics from Royal Talens and varnished with Liquitex varnish.
Flower series #5 – Frangipani A beautiful and nice smelling flower seen so many times here in Sabah in gardens and pretty ladies hair. Painted on stretched canvas 40 cm x 40 cm with Amsterdam and Expert acrylics from Royal Talens and varnished with Liquitex varnish.
Flower Series #1 - Wild Ginger Still very into painting what i see here in Sabah (Borneo, East Malaysia). We will be leaving this place in approximate one year and I feel i will not have enough time to paint all the beauty out here. This is a wild ginger flower which you can see here whenever you step into a park, jungle or other green surroundings. This one is painted with acrylic Amsterdam, Expert and varnish from Royal Talens on ply wood, measuring 66 cm x 76 cm (including the white frame).
After an enjoyable weekend at Usukan Island Dolphin Bay Resort, I could not resist to paint that beautiful bay. Painted on acrylics paper (50 x 70 cm) with Amsterdam and Expert acrylics from Royal Talens and Liquitex varnish.
This sculpture is made from old news papers and card board. It's inspired by all the underwater creators I have seen during my diving trips here in Sabah. The pattern is loosely inspired on a Mandarin fish. But as this is a much bigger fish (it is approximate 35 cm high and 60 cm long) I thought i would call in Orange; which is Jingga in the Malaysian language. Painted and varnished with Amsterdam / Expert acrylics and varnish from Royal Talens
This torso is standing 55 cm tall. The pattern is inspired on the traditional ladies dress in Sabah. It took me a long time to complete this sculpture made from paper and recycling different pieces: some plastic (for bas structure), stones (for weight and balance) and some 50 ringgit cent coins for the top belt; called a himpogot (coin belt) and the bottom one is painted and represents a tangkong (a very heavy brass ring belt) which are a sign of the wearer's wealth. Painted and varnished with Amsterdam / Expert acrylics and varnish from Royal Talens
This torso is standing 68 cm tall. The pattern is inspired on antique beaded Dayak Iban wedding skirt I once saw. It took me a long time to complete this sculpture made from paper and recycling different pieces of plastic (for bas structure) and stones (for weight and lance). Painted and varnished with Amsterdam Expert acrylics from Royal Talens.
